CAR OF THE YEAR TOP 50
No. 20: Ford Escort
Cars
| 03-10-2021
While the second generation Escort was still a rear-wheel drive sedan, the third generation, which came on the market in 1980, was a completely different car: a front-wheel drive hatchback. Moreover, that car was no longer specifically developed for Europe, but the model was intended as a "world car". The third generation Escort was nevertheless European enough to be very popular with European consumers. The input of the Italian designers of Ghia, which had just been acquired by Ford, must have made a positive contribution to this. Of all Escorts, the model from 1980 is also the best scoring in this Top 50. Still, it is not the best scoring C-segment Ford, but I will come back to that in January…
