In 10th place in this Top 50 we find the highest ranking for Toyota and at the same time the best scoring Japanese car in the history of the European Car of the Year election. Today, one manufacturer after another is presenting a new all-electric model and hybrids are almost ancient history. That was very different 18 years ago. Then Toyota presented the second generation Prius, which was for sale in enough European markets in 2004 to compete for the 2005 Car of the Year title. The Prius won that title with 70% of the maximum achievable votes per model. An exceptional score: in almost 60 years, only nine car models have performed better.
