CAR OF THE YEAR TOP 50

No. 08: Volkswagen Golf

Cars
| 26-12-2021
The Golf is the most important - because best-selling - model for one of the largest car groups in the world, the German Volkswagen. Since the first Golf came on the market in 1974, the model has won several awards and has set several records. Worldwide, only the Toyota Corolla and Ford F-150 have been built more than the Golf, with the counter already going over 35 million in 2019. The latest Golf, the VIII or Mk8, didn't even make the Car of the Year shortlist, which is quite a break from the trend. For from the Golf I (or Mk1) to the Golf VII (Mk7), every Golf has finished in the Top 3 of the election. The Golf VII took first place in the 2013 election, to which the then brand-new MQB platform made an important contribution: it made the Golf a nicely balanced car. In addition, it provides Volkswagen's highest ranking in this Top 50, and the highest scoring car of this century.
