CAR OF THE YEAR TOP 50
No. 22: Fiat Tipo
Cars

To this day there are people who claim an Italian car already rusts in the brochure, but that really is something from a long time ago. In 1988, for example, the Fiat Tipo was the first car in its class to have all the sheet steel that came into contact with the outside air galvanized. The rear door (the hatch) was made of fibreglass-reinforced polyester: this saved weight, could not rust and could be made in the desired angular shape. A shape that also made the Tipo a very spacious car. All in all a deserved Car of the Year.
