The winner of the second Car of the Year award is also the highest scoring British car in this Top 50: The Austin 1800, initially sold in the Netherlands and Belgium under the name Balanza. Parent company BMC also sold the car as Morris 1800 and Wolseley 18/85. Due to its striking proportions, the car with model code ADO17 was nicknamed Landcrab. Whatever you call it, the mere fact that both Alec Issigonis (of the Mini) and Pininfarina worked on the exterior makes it an unforgettable car.
