Aerodynamics was the magic word in the development of the Opel Kadett E (with the E indicating that it was the fifth generation Kadett). This resulted in a remarkably modern car - and the title Car of the Year 1985. Moreover, it is the most successful Opel in this Top 50. At the end of production, the Kadett E had also been the best-selling car in the Netherlands non-stop and also the best-selling Opel ever worldwide. However, the latter record would be amply improved by the successor to the Kadett E, the Astra F.
