CAR OF THE YEAR TOP 50

No. 18: Fiat 124

A spacious interior - thanks to the car's angular styling - in a lightweight construction, complemented by a modern wheel suspension and brake discs all round, gave Fiat the title of Car of the Year for the 124 in 1966. By the time Fiat ended production of the 124 in favour of the 131, production of the model nonetheless continued at full speed. This is because Fiat had the 124 built under license by Seat in Spain, Pirin-Fiat in Bulgaria, Tofaş in Turkey, Premier in India, Fiat-KIA in Korea, Lada-Egypt in Egypt and AvtoVAZ in the Soviet Union / Russia. If the model of the 124 looks familiar to you, it is probably because of that last collaboration, because AvtoVAZ sold the model as Lada for decades. All international variants together are the reason for the huge production number that makes the 124 one of the most built car models ever.
