CAR OF THE YEAR TOP 50

No. 15: Fiat Uno

| 07-11-2021
In 1983 I saw the light of day, and that also goes for two very nice compact cars. One was the Fiat Uno, which became 1984's Car of the Year. The other was the Peugeot 205, which received just 4% less of the votes, resulting in a ten-place difference in this Top 50. The Peugeot continued to sell well for much longer (in Europe, at least), but Fiat on the other hand reached a higher total production (seen worldwide). The successor to the Fiat 127, originally designed as Lancia, was nicely spacious inside, partly thanks to the angular design by Giorgetto Giugiaro. In addition, the Uno had a good road-holding and it was a relatively affordable car, both in purchase and fuel consumption. All things with which you score points in the Car of the Year election. 346 points, to be exact.
