The 1957 Fiat 500 and its predecessor, the 500 Topolino, entered the market before the Car of the Year title was called into being. The Cinquecento and the 500e both came in second. That makes the 2007 model the only Fiat 500 to be named Car of the Year. Rightly so. It is not only a very nice car to look at and also a very rare example of a successful retro design, but also a remarkably good driving car, especially compared to its competition. The fact that the 500 has been successfully in production for 14 years - a very long time, certainly by contemporary standards - says it all. As icing on the cake, the 500 is also the best scoring Fiat in this Top 50. However, the brand with the most titles does not deliver the best scoring Italian car; that we find in the Top 3...
